Do you know what all the hype is about regarding Latisse? Women are flocking and talking about the latest eyelash product that promises extended and thicker lashes in as short as 8 weeks, permanently. Is that right?
Permanent, long and thick lashes? Oh yes, that is true.
Miss Claire Danes and Miss Brooke Shields are both fans of this revolutionary eyelash product called Latisse.
The Low Down on Latisse
Latisse is an eyelash solution (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution .03%) that promotes growth of the eyelashes, making it longer, darker and fuller. The effects of Latisse are three things: it increases length of the eyelash hairs, the eyelash color gets darker each week and new hairs start to grow as well. It is said that the anagen phase of the hair cycle growth in the eyelashes is being pumped up by Latisse that’s why the results are so good.
This is real hair and not some synthetic extension. It has been proven that eyelash hairs grow with the help of Latisse and it can be noticed after the 4th week. On the 16th week, guaranteed, full growth will be acquired.
The great thing about Latisse is that it is FDA approved. No other eyelash grower product in the market has that endorsement. Latisse is also a prescription product meaning you will be able to purchase this product only if your physician permits it. This is not any ordinary prescription drug. Therefore, only those women who need it can have access to Latisse. It is a controlled solution which only certifies its effectiveness.
However, there are places online that offer generic Latisse that contain the same ingredients.
How Latisse Came To Be?
It was by accident that Latisse was discovered by one of the biggest and most reputable eye care companies in the world with 60 years of experience, Allergan. They were formulating a treatment for ocular hypertension in 2001. As they tested it, the treatment had one side effect; it made the eyelashes longer. The company saw this as a blessing in disguise and broke down the components of that treatment to find what particular active ingredient was responsible for the hair growth.
The condition is called Hypotrichosis. It is a form of abnormality when some people do not have enough eyelash hair. For years they have formulated and tested it in 16 areas of the United States. 78% of the 278 people involved in the testing with ages 22 to 78 years old (both male and female) had a change in their eyelashes beginning on the 4th week of treatment. Their lashes were longer, thicker and darker. On the 16th week, the lashes were 25% more in length, 106% thicker and 18% darker. What product can give you that type of permanent result in as short as 16 weeks? Latisse was introduced to the public in 2008 and garnered 1,500,000 users for its first year (as prescribed).
Does Latisse Work?
Celebrities like Transformer’s Mrs. John Connor, Claire Danes and the phenomenal Lipstick Jungle star, Brooke Shields has attested to the greatness of Latisse. They are talking about it. They have tried it. They loved it. Here is what each of them has to say about Latisse:
Clair Danes Quoted:
I love the results I got with Latisse. That’s why I’m using it.
In her video diary, Miss Danes explained that the experience of using Latisse was a fun journey with a reward of really great lashes. She did recount that it was a gradual process. At first, her lashes grew longer before it become fuller and then darker. The first noticeable time for her was on the 4th week. It was slow she said but she believed that this FDA approved product will work for her.
She also mentioned that there was a time during her treatment that her lower left eye area had redness or an irritation. It disappeared after a week. Still, she continued on with Latisse and never regretted the decision.
On the 12th week for her, she was praised by people around her. She did say that her lashes dramatically changed and that evidence is irrefutable. Latisse really provides what it says it can do. She did say though that when in doubt, one must do their homework and research about Latisse. It is also important to talk to a doctor like she did before trying the product.
On her 16th week, the change was remarkable. Miss Danes was very happy with Latisse and concluded that she will continue on with the treatment as maintenance. She loves her lashes now, as she says.
Brooke Shields Quoted:
I got the results I wanted. That’s why I trust my lashes to Latisse.
Miss Shields was offered Latisse because someone close to her knew that this was her frustration, having to take out or in her own words, rip off, the false eyelashes she uses every time in her Broadway shows. Her exact words: My interest just peaked!
At 8 weeks, she noticed that her eyes popped out and that she can feel her eyelashes touching the lower part of her brow. She says that it was an inspiration since she’s a type of person who is not patient at all but she did wait for the lashes to make positive changes for her.
On her 16th week, she said that her lashes have improved all over in terms of thickness, fullness and the dark color. She was very satisfied with the results and continued on that her expectations were exceeded. She said that she has never come across a product that works and does what it’s suppose to do like Latisse. She says that she will keep on using Latisse for the foreseeable future.
Latisse Before and After
How to Use Latisse
Latisse has a special brush that must be dipped in the solution and applied on the upper lid, above the lashes. It is imperative that only the upper lashes are treated. It is not applicable to usage on the lower lids due to a possibility in over-growth of hair. Be careful of putting treatment on other parts of the eye too because of the fact that it can grow hair. If it is accidentally put in the eyes, it is ok. Latisse is an ophthalmic solution. It will not harm the eyes.
It must be applied once a day, preferably at night. The ultimate usage of the treatment is for 16 weeks wherein the perfect result will be attained. If you discontinue using Latisse before the 16 week mark, the lashes will eventually go back to its natural state – shorter, lacking hairs, lighter in color etc…
If you forget a day of treatment, do not panic. Just continue your treatment for that day. Never “make up” for the lost days by using Latisse more than once a day.
Latisse Side Effects
There were minimal side effects associated with Latisse. Like Miss Danes, 4% of the controlled users experienced eye itchiness and redness. It goes away after a few days, though. If there are other symptoms, users are advised to go see their doctor and have the condition checked.
How Much Is Latisse?
Latisse is affordable at $120 per bottle. Some medical websites offer Latisse at a discounted rate. Some offer a Buy One, Take One sale after the first bottle is bought. Usually a bottle is good for 30 days or 60 applications. It is affordable considering the treatment is for a delicate part of the human face like the eyes. Without discounts, you will have to spend around $400 dollars for the desired result. It saves you money compared to you buying false eyelashes and throwing them out every day or having your lashes extended at some cosmetic salon for tons of cash.
